Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Abdominoplasty, or "Tummy Tuck," is a procedure to remove excess skin and fat, stretch marks, or scars from the abdomen. This procedure can tighten and improve the shape of the abdominal wall, improving appearance and restoring a more youthful, toned appearance to the midsection. Diet and exercise alone are sometimes not enough to create and maintain a flat and well toned abdomen. Even those individuals with an otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop a sagging, protruding abdomen. The most common causes of this include: pregnancy, heredity, significant weight fluctuation, and aging.
DESCRIPTION
Patients with realistic expectations, who are at a healthy weight, and who do not smoke may be excellent candidates for Tummy Tuck surgery.
RECOVERY
Most of our patients are back to work within two to four weeks, with possible resumption of vigorous activity at about the six week mark. Scarring will fade significantly within a year.
RISKS
Possible risks could include infection and problems with blood clotting as well as issues with scarring. Also, in order to maintain results, a patient should commit to a healthy lifestyle and exercise regimen post-surgery.
