If the chin extension is not adequate it can make the nose look larger revealing out-of-balance facial proportions.  As we age – we often develop a double chin or “turkey gobbler.”  This is caused by excess fat accumulation below the chin as well as muscle laxity in the “sling” that suspends the tissue underneath the chin.  Dr. Gunnlaugsson recommends chin or neck liposuction to patients who are unhappy with this double chin, jowls or chubbiness under the chin.  Liposuction is a safe, in-office procedure that removes this excess fat, and allows for muscle tightening – which recontours the chin and neck.  Chin/Neck Liposuction can take years off your face and restore a healthy, more youthful appearance.

ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR CHIN LIPOSUCTION?
If you are unhappy with the chin you were born with – or an aging chin that is out of proportion with the rest of your face – or a chin distorted by trauma, you could be an ideal candidate for Dr.Gunnlaugsson’s Chin Liposuction procedure.  You should be in overall good health and have realistic goals and expectations.  Implants are common as part of this procedure, if needed, to correct a weak chin and restore correct proportion.

First consults are critical for the patient and the surgeon – they should always be done face-to-face with the surgeon - and not delegated to other staff.

CHIN LIPOSUCTION PROCEDURE
After you are totally comfortable, Dr.Gunnlaugsson will make small incisions in the skin underneath your chin.  Working through these he uses a special tube, called a cannula to vacuum the excess fat from you chin and neck area.  He will also tighten and lift neck muscles if needed and insert your implant – if that is part of your procedure.  This process gets rid of the unwanted fat while sculpting your chin/neck into a more youthful one. Internal sutures dissolve on their own.  External sutures will be removed within 5-7 days.  Some bruising, swelling is normal for a few days. Mild discomfort is also normal but is easily managed with oral Pain medication.
