The process of permanent hair reduction involves using the laser beam (Intense Pulsed Light) to target the hair follicles. Since hair grows in cycles, it is usually necessary to do a series of treatments to affect all of the hairs in any area. A treatment can last from a few minutes to several hours depending upon the size of and number of areas you are having treated. The treatment is not painful but a topical anesthetic may be used to ensure your complete comfort during treatment.

HAIR REMOVAL PROCEDURE:
The area(s) to be treated are marked and then a hand held piece is passed over the treatment area. With this laser hair removal procedure our patients report a sensation similar to that of a rubber band snap or bee sting. The heat penetrates the skin and inactivates the hair follicle. A series of treatments (typically between five and six treatment sessions spaced a couple months apart) are required to effect permanent results since hair grows in cycles.

What does laser hair removal involve?
The laser produces highly controlled flashes of intense, pulsed light that are absorbed by the hair follicles below the surface of the skin. This absorbed light generates heat that damages the hair follicle and prevents regrowth. This results in hair reduction without damaging the surrounding skin tissue.
What is a LHR treatment like?
We ask that you shave the area to be treated the day before your appointment. Once you arrive for your treatment, we apply a cold gel to the treatment area. The hand piece is then gently passed over the treatment area while touching your skin without damaging surrounding areas. After your treatment, the gel and any treated hair is wiped off your skin. You will wear dark glasses during your treatment to protect your eyes.
Will I feel anything during my treatment?
Our patients tell us that during the treatment – each pulse of light – feels like a slight sting or pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. The overwhelming majority of our patients have their treatment without anesthetic.
Is it safe and effective for all hair and skin types?
Today’s laser systems allow for customized treatments for most hair colors, textures, and body locations. As long as the hair has some pigment – it can usually be effectively treated.
What are the side effects?
Slight reddening or swelling at the treatment site may occur but usually resolves within a few hours. On rare occasions there may be blistering or bruising or the skin may become darker or lighter following a treatment. This goes away within a short time also.
Can I resume normal activity after a treatment?
Most of our patients return to work right after a treatment. You will need to limit sun exposure before and after each treatment.
What kind of results are typical?
In most skin types, Laser technology has created permanent hair reduction. In other words – each treatment reduced the number of hairs that grew in a given area so that over time there was no hair growth in the treated areas.
Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Men and women who are in good health, who have realistic expectations, and who desire permanent hair reduction in certain areas are good candidates.
