Microdermabrasion
An intense exfoliation process to remove the upper layer of the skin.
Microdermabrasion, which is used for both functional and cosmetic reasons, is a non-invasive procedure that improves the texture and appearance of aging or damaged skin. By removing the outer most layer of skin – dead skin cells and imperfections disappear. Removal of this surface layer of dead skin cells reveals smoother and fresher skin with a newly defined and refined appearance - while stimulating your own collagen and elastin production.
Microdermabrasion is an excellent skin care procedure when used alone – or in combination with other procedures for skin resurfacing and it is a good alternative to chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. One treatment or a series of treatments can be effective to address problem areas on the face and body. It cannot take the place of surgical procedures or therapeutic skin care products – but it is an excellent adjunct to these and other procedures.

HOW MICRODERMABRASION WORKS:
A precise stream of very fine corundum crystals is directed through a hand piece and onto the skin to loosen the layer of dead skin cells that form on the surface. The debris and crystals are simultaneously vacuumed away – gently – to reveal your fresh invigorated skin. The treatment can take from 30-45 minutes or longer and, since only the uppermost layer of skin is removed, there is very minimal discomfort involved. Anesthesia is not used since this is a painless procedure – and there is no recovery time involved. Our patients report the treatment feels like a “cat’s lick” or a very fine buffing of the skin.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENT:
It is normal to experience slight redness to the skin, but this will subside within a few hours. There may also be an increased blood flow which can cause blushing – this also goes away in a day or two.
Recovery is so quick that this procedure has been nicknamed “the lunchtime peel.” Microdermabrasion has been used in Europe for years and is now one of the most popular skin rejuvenating procedures used in America today.
